The Minister of Culture, Farouk Hosni, announced that two red granite statues of King Amenhotep III and of the god Thoth, were unearthed near the Pharaoh's funerary temple at Kom el-Hettan on Luxor's west bank.
The statue of Amenhotep III and Re-Horakhty, found at the site of Kom el-Hetan in Luxor. The discovery was carried out by an Egyptian team from the Supreme Council of Antiquities (SCA) during routine work reducing the groundwater's level.

In previous years, the International Nile Song Festival has been organised in two categories, one for children from five to nine years old and the second for ages ten to 15.

The National Committee for the Return of Stolen Artifacts, headed by Dr. Zahi Hawass, Secretary General of the Supreme Council of Antiquities (SCA), met to discuss the procedures needed to make a formal request for the return of the Bust of Nefertiti now on display at the Neues Museum in Berlin.
Dr. Hawass also updated the committee on Egypt’s latest efforts to retrieve other artifacts. A number of ministries and government authorities are represented on the National Committee for the Return of Stolen Artifacts.

Two large 26th Dynasty tombs have been found in Saqqara by an Egyptian excavation mission from the Supreme Council of Antiquities (SCA).
Dr. Zahi Hawass, said that the two newly discovered tombs were found at the Ras El Mudir area at Saqqara, near the entrance point of the archaeological site. He explained that both tombs are cut into the limestone rock of the hill and the first one is the largest yet found at Saqqara. It is composed of a large rock-hewn hall followed by a number of small rooms and corridors.

For the first time in the Arab world, Mr.Hesham nessim broke Guinness World Records for the fastest vehicle crossing the great sand sea in Egypt .The journey took place on the 5th of March 2009 and it began from the Gilf Kebir plateau and ended at the Siwa Oasis. The distance between the starting point and the final one is 570 kilometers, but the real distance in which the adventurer crossed was 650 kilometers in 5 hours and 33 minutes.

Abu Simbel is a splendid temple built on a strict east - west axis so that the morning sun actually goes through the heart of the temple for 60 meters to reach the innermost sanctuary at dawn, illuminating the statues of Amon, Ramses II and Ra-Horakhty twice a year on Oct. 22nd and Feb. 22nd.
